Can ATI 2013 restore ATI 2014 backups?

Thread needs solution

Can ATI 2013 restore from ATI 2014 backups?

If not, this requires a multi-system multi-install organisation to upgrade/update ALL installations if even one license of the newer SW is installed. I hope this is not true.

True Image will restore images made with the same or earlier version.

There's no guarantee if you try to use an older True Image with an image made with a newer version. This is very common in the software world, and quite logical. An application can't be expected to support files with features that didn't exist in the particular application version. Word 2010 can open Word 98 documents. Word 98 cannot open Word 2010 documents.

I see no reason to upgrade all PCs. Restoring should be performed from the bootable Rescue Media anyway, so just use the 2014 version of that.

You are correct, but even Microsoft concedes that not everyone has the latest and greatest version of their Office Suite, and even within a single company not *all* systems are updated simultaneously. Microsoft provides for saving in a file format which is compatible with earlier releases. WinZip and Acrobat (Adobe) similarly provide an option for 'compatibility'.

Is there a provision for True Image 2014 creating backup images which are genuinely useful with (for example) True Image 2013?

If not, I would think that file compatibility (at the very least within the Acronis product family) would be a valuable added feature.

Bob,

The forward compatibility is not guaranteed as you know. In my experience, I was able to restore 2012 images with 2011 software. Now that we have GPT disks, I don't know how much change has been made in the archive format between 2014 and 2013, but maybe 2013 could restore 2014 images. You'd have to try.
