Can not get Disk Clone to Make Image on Windows 7 64bit using Acronis Home 2011

Thread needs solution

I tried unsuccessfully to boot from the CD and make an image from my current 160gb Toshiba HD in my Dell Laptop to a new Seagate Momentus 7200.4 250 gb drive. It recognizes the new drive connected to the USB port, but it gives a message that you cannot copy to a smaller drive. When I try to partition the drive, it appears to work on first screen, but always shows I have 2TB of unpartitioned space after I format the 250gb. It says I may need to use an advanced disk utility, but does not name it or mention where it can be obtained.

I also tried going into Windows 7 and using the Disk Management, and Disk2 shows up, but when you try to initialize it, it says it isn't ready.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
David Parham

I did just that, but instead of installing the new drive in a usb enclosure, I installed the new drive in the laptop and installed the old laptop's drive into the usb enclosue. The I used the Acronis boot cd to image the old drive onto the new drive.

Thanks for information. Upon further review of the new drive, we found it was totally dead. No spinning on the drive when it is has power. Getting a replacement next week. Thanks for the help. David
