I do not see the value of the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. The bootable Rescue Media is available when needed, so I don't see any reason to allow the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager to modify the PC's boot. Acronis Startup Recovery Manager adds complexity and risk without any real value over using the bootable Rescue Media. If activated, it modifies your system drive Master Boot Record (MBR), which can cause problems with multi-boot managers and other low-level disk utilities. I prefer just to use the bootable Rescue Media when needed, either from CD or USB flash drive.
I actually do, a few.
Ultrabooks without optical drives.
Also, I don't like taking a bunch of CDs with me when I travel, even though I have an optical drive in my laptop.
Usually to make USB flash drives bootable, they have to be formatted FAT, which means you're limited to file size, and it has to be formatted (even though most files and flash drives are smaller than 4 GB anyways), which means unless you buy one or have one that is unused, you have to back up the contents, make your USB boot flash drive and copy your stuff back. Then while using it, you risk breaking the boot functionality.
It's not for everyone, and I wouldn't use it on desktops either since, like you said, always have the bootable cd to use.
My 2 cents on that matter.
As for the topic on hand, I agree on performing the recovery/restore from the rescue media.

As I said before that it makes sense to use the bootable media however, I have a Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15, which does not have an optical device. I do have external devices but would prefer that ATI2014 work with all options it is designed to work from. I hate to carry external devices when traveling.
Now I see I cannot even set an Acronis security zone as it does the same where it reboots but never returns to the Acronis process.
