Can not restore PST file

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I have had a primary HD failure (SSD) and have had to reinstall the OS. Most of hte data was still accessable from either the Data Drive or the NAS but I lost a outlook PST file which was backed up to the NAS by Acronis True Image Home 2010. I have tried to restore the backup and while the log shows that the operation was successful it dosn't actually restore anything other than a contacts folder. No PST files.
I can browse the archive from within Arcronis and see all the files etc and it appears to be correct in size. The archive is 1.2gig so there is some data there to be had.
the OS is Win7n 64bit.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

What happens if you physically drag the PST file from the image to the new install?

It might be that if you made a files and folders backup the SSID is now incorrect if you the new disk contains a new instance of W7 and Outlook/Windows Mail. If this is the case, Outlook could be removing the file.

If on the other hand this is part of a disk image, you could mount the image and then point Outlook to th ePST file and instruct it to import the file.

Either way, don't open Outlook until after you have attempted to move the PST file. It might be necessary to either restore without SSID or to take ownership of the file in order to allow it to stay on your system. Another option might be to drag the file into a new folder and then change Outlooks default settings to use that new folder as the destination for storing emails.
