Can TI delete or merge a Ext3 partition?

Thread needs solution

I bought a new 1.5 TB external hard drive to replace a smaller one that is used for extra capacity on my Dish vip 722 receiver. I cloned the old 750 GB EHD because it contained about 300 hours of programs and the recommended way of moving programs would have taken days and much swapping of drives and moving programs from the old EHD -> receiver -> new EHD.

The cloning worked fine but it moved the existing partitions and programming to the new drive and left 700 GB in an "unallocated" partition. The partitions are all Ext3 (Linux?), and the software that I was using can delete or merge only FAT or NTFS partitions.

I'm working with the trial version of Acronis for the backup utility only. If I upgrade to the full version will it handle Ext3 partitions (delete or merge)?

Lee,

The full version will not be able to merge Ext3 partitions either, only Disk Director can do that from the standard Acronis products. I think GParted will do what you want. Alternatively if you don't need EXt3 partitions, you could delete the partition and go from there.

Thanks, Colin.

GParted worked well and did exactly what I needed.
