Can You Restore from Recovery CD using Wifi

Thread needs solution

I use TI 2010 build 6053 to make system images from my notebook to my NAS drive. I do this via a wireless G connection to the router/NAS and it works just fine. I was experimenting with restores and booted from the rescue CD to attempt a restore via a wireless connection also. But it appears that the rescue CD only detects my ethernet card and not my wireless card (I've done restores previously using the ethernet connection which worked fine). Is it possible to restore via a wireless card using the rescue CD? I searched the forum but couldn't find anything. Before I dig into alternate options like BartPE or WinPE or whatever, I thought I'd first ask to save a bunch of time if it's not doable.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 6400 with an Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 ABG card. I'm using a Linksys WRT610N wireless router with a WD My Book World Edition NAS.

Thanks.

The Acronis boot CDs do not support WiFi. If you need to restore via wireless you would need a recovery environment with wireless support like BartPE or WinPE. Personally, if wired Ethernet is available I would rather use it since it will be faster than wireless.

Hi, you could do this by using an external wireless device such as a Belkin Wireless G Range Extender / Access Point (F5D7132) which you plug in to your ethernet port using a standard RJ45 network cable and which then gives access to your WiFi network and resources - all the Wifi configuration is held on the Belkin device, so it just appears like a wired network connection.

Is it really worth the bother, maybe it is but not for me. Wireless G has a maximum theoretical data rate of 54Mbps compared to a USB2 drive 480 Mbps and the wired LAN's 100Mbps. If the wireless signal isn't rock solid the theoretical maximum of 54 won't even be achieved.

Note these are theoretical maximums used for comparison. The actual throughput of all of the above examples is considerably less.

Thanks for the answers. I agree that wired is preferable but I'm just trying different things to see what is possible. I'm going to swap out the wireless G card for Intel's wireless N card so then the bottle neck in my system will move from the wireless G card (I get about 20 Mbps) to the NAS drive (about 120 Mbps). In theory (I'll find out for real once I do the replacement) I'll be able to back up and restore over the wireless network at the same speeds as I get over the wired gigabit network since the NAS will become the choke point for the whole thing. I'm hoping to get the 120 Mbps range from the wireless N card. I'll check into the BartPE and WinPe disc options to see how that works for me.
