Cannot back up to this partition because Nonstop Backup does not support the file system on it.
Dear Support, Monday September 17, 2012
I use MS XP with SP3 and all the updates.
Backup destination is a Western Digital My Book 2 TB NTFS USB external drive.
I use True Image Home 2012 with all the bells and whistles. Thought I was using Continuous Backup but now discover the last successful Continuous Backup was in November 2011, as I remember this is about the time I updated from 2011 to 2012. When I manually command Continuous Backup to start it displays the message:
Cannot back up to this partition because Nonstop Backup does not support the file system on it.
Again, it is a NTFS drive.
How do we fix this?
Sincerely,
Robert A. Matney.

A couple of things. I disabled MS Securities and Firewall. It made no difference, Acronis sees the drive but can’t access it believing it to be a non NTFS.
Weird thing.
When I click on the Nonstop Backup log file it says it worked but never displayed the little icon in the lower right screen tray that says it’s backing up. When I click on Restore it gives the message “There are no versions of the backup.”

Well I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and it made things worse taking almost 9 minutes for True Image Home to load up.
Everything else is the same.

Hi Ram
Not sure if this will help but have you looked here...

Dear Pete,
I found that thread with a Google search. I have neither TrueCrypt nor Windows 64 and still get the message:
Cannot back up to this partition because Nonstop Backup does not support the file system on it.
My next step is to uninstall (again) and install the try before you buy 2013 version. Another waste of a day.
Thanks anyway.
RAM.

Folks,
I have a variant on this question....
I have Acronis 2011 True Image Home, and a newly purchased Western Digital 2TB external drive. I tried to configure NonStop backup to use the external drive, and got the '...Nonstop Backup does not support the file system on it' error. The drive is formatted as NTFS.
I tried again with another 4 year old WD drive. True Image complained again, until I upgraded to the most recent release of the 2011 product. Now, TIH accepts that the 4 year old drive is NTFS, but still doesn't accept the new drive is - I get the same error.
I'd like to use my new drive, so any ideas on what else I can try ?
Thanks.

Do you have a password set on that drive (via WD SmartWare or WD Security)?
Are you sure you pointed ATI to the hard drive, and not to the Virtual CD (VCD) volume on that hard drive?

tuttle,
Thanks for the swift response.
I have no password set, and the drive appears to Windows 7 as a local drive, NTFS formatted. I reformatted the drive almost as soon as I plugged it in, to be double sure that W7 knew what it is dealing with.
Any other ideas ? Is it perhaps an old driver or something ?

HairyScot,
Right click on the computer icon on your desktop, choose manage, storage & disk management
In the disk management window, choose view > top > List disks
Capture a screen shot of the resulting window and post it here.

Pat L,
Having shut down the m/c, I restarted it just now. True Image now believes that the 2TB drive is NTFS, and nonstop backup is now running to that drive !
I ought to feel happy, but I will only be happy once it has worked without complaining for a week or two. This kind of intermittent behaviour drives me nuts ....
Thanks to all for your help. I'll repost if it starts to misbehave again.

This could be a connection issue.
Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case.
