Cannot backup and writenocache error message

Thread needs solution

I am trying the trial version of Acronis True Image 2012 to decide before buying. I have XP SP3 and a Buffalo 500Gb external drive.

I have formatted the drive to allow for a clean back-up.

The back-up fails with the following repeated message

Error occurred while writing the file. (0x40003)
function = "WriteFileNoCache"
Tag = 0x7CEB2CDC9FB121D3
Data error (cyclic redundancy check) (0xFFF0)
code = 80070017)
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8BC.

More information about this error and solutions may be available online in the Acronis Knowledge Base.
To access the online resource manually, enter the event code at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x00040003+0x0000FFF0+0x80070017

Can someone help me sort this out???? Zip of log is attached

Thanks

BG

Hello Boyd,

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us. And thank you for your interest in our products.

>> Data error (cyclic redundancy check)
usually points onto the hard drive starting to fail. In this situation I would advise you to do the following:

  1. Go to Start -> run -> cmd
    This will get you to the command line interface
  2. In the command line issue the following command:
    chkdsk /f /r
    and press Enter
  3. The command line will ask you whether you would like to schedule a disk check upon next booting. Press Y
  4. Reboot the machine

Once it starts to boot, Windows will check the drives for consistency, and fix errors if any.

If the problem remains, please send us the output of Acronis Info and Acronis Report.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you.

Thank you.
