Cannot backup to NAS

Win7, attempting to back up to FreeNAS server
True Image 2015, cannot find build number under help/About. Just updated today 8/29/2015

Have never been able to backup to the NAS from this computer. Support has expired. From Windows file manager I can browse the NAS and create text files with long names, without entering any credentials.

A similar Win7 computer _is_ able to backup to this NAS. It is running the exact same version of True Image 2015.

All attempts on this PC start by saying "backing up", stop quickly at about 22M, then after a few minutes suggest that I close the application that may currently use the file xxx. The path is correct and the file name is that given by Acronis ending in .tib.

Follow-up: got this working by creating a subdirectory and sending the backup there. I don't know why this worked, just that this was the way that the working system was set up.
