cannot backup w. bootable rescue media, says "TrialVersion"

Thread needs solution

I made a rescue medium with latest Update (August2012, Build5551) of ATIH by creating an ISO, unzipping it with 7-zip into folder, and copying the contents of the folder "Recovery Manager" onto my bootable usb-stick with syslinux on it.

Booting with my USB-stick on a new pc, I can restore backups that I made with TrueImage2011 earlier, but when I want create a new backup of the pc, it finally says "This is a trial version, cannot backup".

The True Image Home-Programm, with which I made the bootable media shows my serial number in the About-Dialog. I downloaded the Build5551 from the official website after registering with my serials.

So, why did my license vanish?
What can I do to have my copy on the usb-stick fully functional?

Is it possible that you entered a trial serial number rather than a full paid serial number?

Contact Acronis about licence issues.

If the serial number is correct, try, deleting the media builder folder and then re-install 2013.

The easier thing to do though would be to download the recovery ISO from your account and burn that to disk or install onto a USB stick.

Thanks for your comments.

@tuttel: Nope, the serial is correct, I double checked before, it is the same as on my acronis account.

@ColinB: I downloaded the upgrade by using my acronis account. Normally, using the media builder should work, as it worked with the CD-version. I will try to download and burn the ISO, just to test that option.

Nobody else having the license problems with the upgrade and syslinux?

I don't believe your issue has anything to do with syslinux.

As I told you last week, contact Acronis about licence issues.

With trial 2013, you cannot backup or clone from the recovery CD.

This really sucks. This is why I upgraded, but now this functionality is taken out of the product? When did they tell us this was going to be removed from the new release?

I use TI to backup images from my work PC and then restore them on a machine at my house to work on. I do software development and testing, so I cannot install anything on the image I am testing. So, I do not have the option to install the product, everything I do is from a rescure media bootable ISO/disc. This is for a government office testing lab, and I am one of the testers. This product has allowed me to work from home on many days, by being able to bring home a software build and test it on my own machine. If I had known this was going to be this way, I would have not purchased 2013. My 2012 works fine, I just tested it. So now I have to go back to the old product, what a ripoff.

They should consider putting things back to the way they were, or at least let people know a feature of a previous release is not going to be available in the next product.

IF this does not get fixed, I will not be able to work from home. No work from home means I am buying another product or going with Clonezilla. I had to fight uphill many battles to be able to do this. Any the main selling point to my work was that I did not install any software or leave a footprint. The Windows build we use is on a closed system that has a VERY limited and controlled number of apps, so I would never be able to install the images I take and bring home to work on.

Please, as a long time user and fan, fix this in your product.

Thanks,

David

David,

Just to be clear, the statement of post #5 is only valid for the trial version, not for the full version.

Extracting linux bootable files from filesystem of .iso image always loses license. The thing is that .iso image contains two ramdisk files. The one you see is the one used to create Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (hence the name of the folder) when booted from media and doesn't contain license information. The one actually executed during boot is not visible as a part of file system (google for el-torito for details). If you need a bootable usb stick, you should be able to create it from a media builder specifying this usb stick as media location.

Pat L. : I don't think you get what I am saying. There is no way to make a bootable CD that is not a trail version, all the bootable CD's, whether made from the product's Rescue Media Builder, or the downloaded ISO files from Acronis, are all trail versions. A bootable CD that is a FULL version does not exist for 2013 Home version. I never used a trail version, my installed product has been registered since I purchased it.

I have paid for and run the FULL version. However, when you make the bootable CD, like a direct burn from the product, it makes a TRIAL VERSION CD, which cannot make backups.

Yes, I checked HELP->ABOUT, my product has the key and lists itself as registered.

I even goto the website and download the ISO files, which work for 2012 TI, just the 2013 images do not make a FULL version CD when you burn or make them.

I don;'t mess/edit the ISO file, and usually let the builder burn the CD for me.

This was either done by accident or on purpose, but either way it effects the product is a major way.

I think I should get a refund. I own and have registered 14 products thus far, and for work I was the driving factor for my agency to buy the corporate versions of their products. If they are trying to limit the functionality, I get it. Maybe they want us to buy the advanced workstation (which I already own) to make bootable CD's to run backups. That is fine too, just there needs to be disclosure. tell people when you are going to take a major function out of the product. I feel like I wasted my money on 2013 when all I can use to do my work is 2012. I am not going to stop telecommuting because they changed the functions of their product, would you?

Hello Everyone,

Thank you all for your posts and contribution to this discussion.

David, I am currently downloading the same type of the bootable media that is in your Acronis account to check if there is a problem with the media. I will also contact you via a private message and provide you with a different download link for the media.

We have not removed any features from the full bootable media for True Image 2013 by Acronis.

The trial bootable media limitations remain the same.

As for the issue when creating the media in Windows it can be fixed by launching the installation file and selecting repair installation. This will update the bootable media components in our software.

The reason for Klaus' issue has been addressed by dev-anon's post here.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

This is absolutely not true.

Hello all,

I have the same problem!
I bought and installed 2013. In ABOUT it says full version.

When I create an USB stick and boot it, it tells me "trial mode".

Downloading the ISO and burning to CD works, but I would like to use USB stick as it's faster ;)

Thanks
David

Hello David,

Thank you for the follow-up.

Did you create the bootable USB stick using True Image 2013 by Acronis or some other method, similar to Klaus' for example?

Looking forward to your reply and if you have additional questions please let me know.

Thank you.

Hello Anton,

thanks for the fast reply!

I created the stick (multiple times) using boot media creator from inside TIH2013.

Best regards
David

David,

Did you install a trial version earlier? Did you produce a trial recovery CD?

If yes, verify that your temp director is empty.

How can I completely clean all and install from beginning again?
What directories need to be removed after uninstall?

Just to be sure ;)

I have NEVER used an Arconis TRIAL product, I have paid for and own 14 versions of Acronis software, so I have never installed, downloaded, or used any type of TRIAL anything.

After I made the purchased of 2013 online, I downloaded the FULL version from Cleverbridge, or whoever sends you the link, and then I installed 1 time with the key the FULL version.

That is why I am sooo baffled, I have never done a trial of any products, yet I can't seem to make a FULL bootable version, whether it be via the product, or the download direct from Acronis.

No matter what I try, bootable CD, bootable USB, or download, all I get is a trial version.

I am glad to see that this is a "problem" and that the functionality has not been taken away.

I am at work during the day, so I will have to download and burn it when I get home tonight. I can download here, but we don't have access to burn on NIPR.

Thanks,

David

David S,

You can uninstall using the Control Panel, run the clean up utility, empty your temp directories, reboot, reinstall.

David H,
Definitely a problem. It behaves like you have registered a trial serial number. Not much you can do except from getting help from Acronis.

Thanks to Anton, I am working again. YAY!

I am curious what happened, and why my login and download page has a trial image when it should not? Maybe it is a website error? I think they will fix me up, but if others are having the same problem, I was provided with a link to download the CORRECT file with license installed.

So, after the fabulous Anton helped me, I am solved and happy again with Acronis! All is well in Davies Acronisland.

I can only say the forum support fixed my issue in RECORD time, less than 24 hours which would have only been about 12 if I did not go to work today. Great worked Acronis, and especially Anton, my new superhero!

So, if you are having the same problem, email or post for assistance, they will help you very quickly.

Love,
David

FYI - The correct filename is ATIH2013PP_5551_en-US.ISO, if your login downloads ATIH2013_en-US.ISO you are getting the trial version and need to contact support. I have Plus Pack, so your filename might be a little different and not have the PP in the name if you did not purchase the add-on.

Glad you got it resolved.

The below is the normal file names when downloaded from your own personal web account.

ATIH2013_5551_en-US.exe (Regular TrueImage 2013)
ATIH2013_5551PP_en-US.exe (plus pack only for 2013)

Under normal conditions, It is the input of your purchased serial number which changes it from trial to non-trial.

A separate serial number input needed for each download.

Hello All,

thanks for the help, it works like a charm now! :)

I uninstalled, deleted all folders, cleaned registry, ran CCleaner, reboot, re-install.

Best regards
David

Hello Everyone,

I am glad that the issues have been resolved and I appreciate your feedback David Howard. In addition, I downloaded the versions from the same links that is present in your Acronis web-account and they appear to be the full version.

These are the names of the files: ATIH2013_en-US and ATIH2013PP_en-US.

I will forward this issue to our Web-team so that they can take at this issue in more detail.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
