Cannot launch ATIH 2012 from desktop icon, or any other way

Thread needs solution

I have been successfully doing weekly backups, and usually a day or two later, I launch the program to check its status, and to view the backup log. But I can't even launch the program now. Upon clicking on the desktop icon, I do get the user acount control window, and click YES, the window goes away, I get a small circle next to my desktop cursor, but that goes away after a few seconds, and nothing more happens.
I tried going to TrueImageLanucher through through c:/x86/ProgramFiles/Acronis/TrueImageHome etc, but that doesn't work either. According to the notes I made on the Program CD, I have version 15.0.7119, first installed on 12/01/2011, and reinstalled 05/25/2012. I am at a total loss as to how to solve this problem. Please help

Bob,

Check to see how many True Image entries are showing in Windows Task Manager, you should see one for scheduler2, one for timounter, a scheduler and TIH launcher, if you see two launchers kill one of the processes and see if TIH then loads the GUI.

Have you made any alterations to your PC recently such as allowing a Micrsoft Update for W7 or any other program run some updates?

Have you tried running a repair installer of 2012? This is done using the installer file.

I have noticed that occasionally the True Image GUI will not display when the program is launched. When that happens I open task manager and see multiple instances of TrueImage.exe * 32 and TrueImageMonitor.exe *32 runninng. I have to kill them before the GUI will launch. Perhaps there is an issue that they don't shut down / terminate properly from a prior execution? It is annoying. I didn't have the issue with the 2011 version.

Colin, Thank you for your response. Bear with me, as I'm kind of flying blind here.. I have a number of task manager entries that are ATIH related. Nothing related in the applications tab. On the Processes tab, there are a slew of non-related items, but in the middle of that list I have an instance of TimouterMonitor.exe, followed by ten (10) instances of TrueImage.exe, followed by another timouter. Those are followed by more unrelated items on the processes list. Yes, there have been some Windows 7 routine updates. These are set on automatic, and have never been a problem before. No doubt all the TrueImage.exe instances reflect the number of times I have tried to launch the program. I suppose I could uninstall/reinstall the ATIH. What concerns me it that this failure to launch could occur again, apparently at any time. No, I have not tried a "repair installer". Is that on the installation disc? Would that be better that an clean reinstall? At almost 76, all this stuff really starts to bafffle me.

Based on the second reply from James Simmons (thank you James) , should I consider just deleting on the ATIH processes entries and them try launching? Again, I'm flying blind here...

Robert,

Kill your ten instances of TrueImage.exe, then try starting TIH, everything should then burst into life.

That did it! After killing the ten instances, NO problem launching ATIH, or in viewing the log. Thank you so much! I'll try to remember that fix if it happens again. ( my memory ain't what it used to be...)

I have ATIH2012. I have weekly backups + validation set for thursdays, to an external HD. on a recent saturday, I did a new full system backup after clearing the external HD and deleting my partitions , and after checking the log, I see the icon for a successful backup on that day, but it is followed by a yellow warning icon. I have no idea why. Can someone please tell me what that might be about?

Open the log viewer and look at the detail for all log entries. If you are seeing a "configuration not found" or (close to that) error, you can ignore it.

Thanks James for the reply. If I pull up the log viewer off the single gear icon at the upper right, I see what I described. I can find no detail option for any more info. ON the other hand, just a few minutes ago, when I right clicked on My Partitions (only 1 version so far) and view the log that way, the yellow triangle warning icon does NOT appear next to the green ball success icon for the date in question. SO, based on that, I don't think I have a problem. :)
