Cannot mount backup: "cannot assign drive letter ..."

Thread needs solution

If I try to mount one of my recent backup archives, I get an error dialog saying:

"Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive"

No further information. The backups appear to have completed OK.

This is not filling me with confidence that I can get my data should I need the backup. How can I mount the volume?

If you can open the archive using Windows explorer and/or you can validated the backup files, you can increase your confidence that you can restore when needed.

Can you get to the dialog where you have to choose which partition to mount? If yes make sure you don't attempt to mount a partition normally hidden by Windows.

I am having what is apparently the same problem in Acronis 2015 trying to mount C drive (but not the system partition) in a UEFI system. I should add that it is a backup taken under Acronis 2014. It does validate but it is too quick - 2 or 3 seconds, where it should take 5 or 6 minutes. I can recover files from it but I cannot mount it. I have unchecked the box for the system partition. I too have severe reservation that the backup concerned is viable for a restore of the system C Partition.

I have numerous problems with Acronis 2015. They just keep coming up, and not going away.....
