Cannot mount TIB file from another computer

Thread needs solution

An archive created under another version of Acronis (Workstation I think) will not mount on a computer running Home 2011. The archive contains document folders and files from a computer that crashed last week. It is still in the shop, but I need to get access to some of the files in its backup so we transfered the drive from the dead PC to this one (no problems there). I am sure the backup is fine, but this version of Acronis just gives me an error when I try to mount it "this is not the last archive in the bla bla bla".

It's a 3GB archive file, not a partition or anything, just folders and files. Double clicking the archive in windows explorer results in an error saying the backup is corrupt or in use, which I seriously doubt. Right clicking, archive/validate results in "failed to add the backup to the backup list".

I just need to pull out a few files, I can't believe this is so problematic. Doesn't speak well to this software.

If you did a file backup, you cannot mount that backup anyway... It needs to be a disk and partition backup so that you can mount it. It is weird though that it gives you the "this is not the last archive". If it were a file backup, it would tell you there is a problem with this type of archive kind of message.

When you double click on the file, can you explore it with Windows Explorer?

When you launch recover from ATI 2011, does it give you the same issues?

Did you try to download the trial of the latest Backup and Recovery, if you think that it is some product from that line up that produced the backup?

Alternatively, if you have a recovery CD from the software that created the backup, you could try to boot the computer on that CD and recover your files.

You can't Mount a Files & Folders type backup. Also, I don't think you'll be able to access a Workstation backup with TI Home. You should probably be trying the Corporate version (B&R, Echo, or Workstation).

I cannot explore the TIB file, which is what I thought you could do. That's the only reason I tried to mount it. Trying to explore (double clicking on it) it gives me the archive is corrupt error.

I tried booting off the rescue CD, I get the same thing, error saying its not the last archive. Strange because its a complete archive of that folder structure in a single file, not one that is incremental or spanned.

I have tried a few other TIB files on the same drive and I AM able to explore them, so I guess this archive actually is corrupt, although how that happened is beyond me when all others are fine. That archive is one that was being backed up on a schedule every week, the others where manually created.

SO the one archive I actually need, that was backing up regularly and is the most important isn't working, just great.

I suppose there is no way to recover any of the data then?

Were the other images also created with Workstation? If so, what I'm saying is that that could be part (or all) of the problem. In the older versions (and possibly also now) the corporate version TIB files were not compatible with the home version TIB files. Until you try opening it with a corporate version you won't know for sure. It is possible it really is corrupted.

What size is the backup?

Does the image size match others taken before it?

Are there any other backups with the same date and a time just before or just after this backup?

Is the partition holding the backups formatted FAT32?

Sometimes TI would get confused with numbers in the filename, especially if they were at the end since it used them for splits, incrementals, and differentials. If it has numbers, you could try renaming it to something else (like "backup.tib") and seeing if that will allow you access to it (make a note of the original filename).
