Cannot understand why so many partitions.

Thread needs solution

Although I always run Disc Backup instead of Partition Backup I have often wondered why so many partitions on my Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook.

Peter,

Your partition screen capture shows several Recovery partitions along with other System Reserved and probably an EFI bootloader partition.  Computer systems are certainly getting more complicated with this mix, especially when upgrades within Microsoft Windows versions create new recovery partitions to allow roll-back.

See webpage Understanding Disk Partitions which may help to enlighten you further.

The other method that you can use if needed would be to purchase a spare disk drive (SSD or HDD) of the same size or similar to your current drive, then install this in the system (putting your current drive safely aside).

Do a clean install of your Windows OS on the spare disk drive then look to see what partitions are created for that clean install - this will show you what actual required partitions you need.

Thank you Steve, All seems too hard, I shall just leave as is, it's working fine.
