Cannot use windows back up in control panel

I installed True Image 2011 trial on windows 7. It stopped responding at one point but later recovered. It did not allow me to use the windows back up. It says close the dialog box and restart control panel but the Acronis interface always reappears.
I uninstalled and reinstalled with the same result.
Now with the product uninstalled, I cannot open the windows back up and recovery from control panel so I cannot do a back up.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
