Can't Access Drives with TI 2010 Rescue CD
I've just built a new computer and am able to make complete disk images using TI 2010, build 7160 under Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I have an Asus P8H67 -M EVO motherboard with the H67 chipset and an Intel i5 2500K processor, and a 1 TB WD Sata III HD. I am saving disc images to a network attached hard drive (WD MyBookWorld NAS).
My problem is trying to test a recovery by using the rescue CD. When I boot from the boot disc I get an error that says no hard drives were found.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- boot with rescue cd made from within TI 2010: no hard disks found
- boot with rescue cd made from downloaded iso from my account: same error
- boot with rescue cd made from safe media: hard drives found, can't get a usb or ps2 mouse to work, and no network access available
- booted with an older Bart PE disc with TI 2009: boots fine, hard disks found, network adapter can't be found so no network access/recovery possible.
I suspect the problem is the lack of Linux drivers for my chipset/motherboard.
So I would like some advice about where to go from here. I searched the forums/knowledge base and found similar problems but didn't find a solution.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Pat. I've sent an email to Acronis Support to see about a different ISO. I'll report back once I've heard from them and what kind of success I achieve if I do get a different image to boot from.
I'm doubtful that TI 2011 will be any better because some of the posts I found with my search had the same problem with 2011.
I wondered about the WinPE version. I've not done that before and it looks like a lot of work. I'll save that for the last resort.
Cheers.

I would try the iso for the previous version as I had the same problem with the 7160 version.

Tried them, but no luck. Still can't find the hard drive. Thanks for the suggestion though.

this discussion thread sounds interesting.
peregrine is using one of those brand new CPUs of the sandy bridge family - running on intel H67 chipset.
i assume the WD HDD is attached to the SATA 6G additional controller (instead of the integrated SATA-II controller)?
it's quite interesting that the safe media detects the HDD just fine whereas the full version doesn't.
well, sandy bridge is brand new. i'd also give it a shot with most recent ISO download of ATI 2011 ...
are you using classic MBR partition table or UEFI / GUID partition table?

Yes, the HDD is connected to the 6G controller and I'm using the classic MBR setup. I'm using the Asus motherboard default settings, so the drive is in IDE mode, not RAID, and I did not install the Marvell drivers either once into Windows.
With the safe media boot disc I can see the internal drive and an external 1 TB WD MyBook drive. I can't get a mouse to work though. I've tried 3 different ones connected to different USB ports and nothing. I put a PS2 adapter onto a corded mouse and for the most part it didn't work although one time it did. Odd. But that's a motherboard thing I think because it didn't work just going into the BIOS either (the new Asus BIOS that has mouse support) except for that one time. I think I need to find a straight PS2 mouse. I think something gets messed up in the USB to PS2 conversion.
I may have to try the 2011 version. I suppose I could try the trial version and create a boot disc from within that program and see what happens.
First I'm going to wait to see if customer support has any advice or downloads that will work.
FYI, I am also trying the 30 trial of Norton Ghost 15 to see how that goes. It's not without it's challenges either. Very difficult installation, won't back up a system image to a network drive (for reasons yet unknown) yet the creation of a boot disc was pretty straight forward. Just had to download a 32 bit driver for my LAN card and Norton put it into a WinPE boot disc iso which I burned and use without any trouble. So amazingly with Norton I can boot to the rescue CD without trouble and navigate around no problem. Getting the actual backup done in Windows to a network drive, not so much.
So I can back up easily with one program and restore with the other. Nice ;)

Well, I followed the advice of Pat L and philippg and gave TI 2011 a shot. I downloaded and installed the trial version and burned a rescue cd. It works. It recognizes all drives including the network drive and my wireless USB & mouse combo works too.
I'm currently running a restore of my c: drive back to a image I captured yesterday with TI 2010 (after all the Norton installs and uninstalls and repairs and now conflicts with other programs I wanted to go back a day in time). The image is about 43 GB in size but it looks like its going to take 3 or 4 hours to restore. 2011 wants to do a sector by sector restore. Not sure why that is. Didn't seem to be an option to not do that either.
Anyway, it looks like I'm making progress. Usually image files are compatible one version back so I assume that this is going to work.
Thanks for your assistance.

The restore took forever (6 to 8 hours by my guess) but when I got up this morning it was done and the computer was restored. I guess I'll be buying the 2011 version of the program. Nice that I just got an email for a good upgrade deal.
Thanks again for your assistance.

Once you have your licenses/serial number, register it with Acronis and then input it into your installed trial version. Un-installing the trial version is not necessary.

Grover, thanks for the tip.
Also, do you know why TI 2011 would have done a sector by sector restore? The image was made with TI 2010 and was not done sector by sector. Did it restore this way because the .tib file was from a previous version? Or because I used a 2011 trial version for the restore? Or because I have very new hardware that the linux drivers struggled with? Or does 2011 just do it this way? Or ...
My past experience with restoring a disc or partition was much faster than this and was not done sector by sector as far as I know.
Since you're so experienced with TI I was wondering if you might have some insight into this.
Thank you.

It is possible for bad sectors to cause a restore to be that way but as I recall all my restores of single partitions in2011 Acronis has chosen sector by sector-- and bad sectors was not a cause. Perhaps others may want to comment.
