can't backup to network drive

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to backup to a share on Synology NAS. Acronis won't backup to a mapped drive letter. Since the browser doesn't show the NAS server to select the share how can I specify UNC path for the backup file?

Thanks for any help with this.

Hello Michael!

Thank you for finding time to join us, we're glad to greet you here. I understand your concern, and will be glad to shed the light to the situation.

Backup using mapped drive as a way to specify the target destination may fail: when you map a drive, it becomes mapped only under your Windows account. The Acronis product runs its tasks using the system account and so it is sometimes impossible to locate your mapped drive (especially when you are logged off). The best way, as you've mentioned, is to use UNC path. It should look like

\\[ip-address]\[folder name]

You need to type it in the File name filed and hit Enter. This should work. You can find more details about mapped drives and UNC path in this KB article.

Please also note that Synology recently had issues with our software, but they've managed to release the update that fixes the problem. Please find the details in this KB article. Shortly: Customers received "Access to the file is denied issue" This was the issue of Synologfy DiskStation Manager 3.0, and it was fixed starting from DSM 3.0.1354 build.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
