Can't Edit Comment with Bootable CD

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have Acronis True Image Home 2011 (build 6696) Bootable CD.
I have 1 HDD with 2 partitions: C: (System) and D: (Data)
I booted from the Bootable CD, created full image DiskC.tib of the partition C: and saved it on the partition D: with comment "Initial Image"
After that I installed some programs on Disk C:, and again created in the same way (from bootable CD) INCREMENTAL image DiskC-2.tib of the partition C: and saved it on the partition D: with comment "Incremental Image".

Problem:
When I want to recover partition C:, I see that there are 2 image files: DiskC.tib and DiskC-2.tib, but both files have same comment "Initial Image".
If I edit comment of DiskC-2.tib using bootable CD, I see applied changes, but after reboot DiskC-2.tib again have comment "Initial Image" instead of "Incremental Image".

Thanks

Hello misvin misvin,

Thank you for your post. I will do my best to assist you.

I checked our resources and I did not find similar issues. I will forward your comment to our Testing Lab and if it is reproduced our Development team will resolve this problem.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Same Problem Here !!! And Tech support said they have never heard of this before PLEASE HELP !!!

I have used versions 9 and 11, just started using 2011 latest build. I have always used an external drive for my secure zone, I have always used bootable rescue media such as a CD-ROM or USB stick to boot and then create full and incremental backups as well as to restore partitions. I have always been able to create a comment for each incremental. With ATI home 2011 I see I can do that, however, when I boot back into Rescue media, all incrementals share the same comment as the very first incremental, also when I use the option to change comments, I see when I reboot they do not stay, they revert to all comments being the same.

Spoke to tech support on the phone 3 times today, 1st person said this is normal, 2nd person said it is not, 3rd person said it is not. Then received an email saying I have to make comments AFTER I make a back up. This does not resolve the issue either. I only use the bootable rescue media to do my operations and want to continue to, as well as using an external drive. Please bare in mind I use bootable rescue media the same way one uses F11, on versions 9 and 11 this has always worked perfectly. Also I have learned how to create incremental backups by adding to the existing full back up archive, this I figured out, its just the comments for my incrementals all mirror the first, Please Hep Me !

Have a look at this KB article Tech support told me to look at, then please look at the very last picture. http://kb.acronis.com/content/18362

It says: To add a comment while creating a backup select the Comments tab in the backup wizard and type the comment in the window on the right:

But then it says after picture: Comments created from Acronis Bootable Media will be visible in Acronis True Image Home 2011 interface in Windows.

Both are correct, but whether in Windows ATI or Bootable Rescue (same as F11) I can not make comment changes stay. I have tried a great many times, have reinstalled ATI, as well as have rebuilt secure zone several times, nothing is working ...

Thanks !!! : )

Erik

Misvin, did you upgrade or did you do a fresh install ?? Please let us know

I got a private response from some one at Acronis, saying they never saw this problem, but they did, please refer to this article:

My response to Acronis was: "Well what I am supposed to do until then ????
This is Horribly inconvenient, I just paid for this full version, I updated from Acronis ver. 11.
I already attempted to do a removal using the removal tool, but not all info in registry could be erased, so I got an error message trying to install 2011, and it would not install. So, I chose the upgrade option instead.

Make sure your Development team knows I upgraded. You 'Have' seen this issue before from user: in this article.

Please have the Development team fix this, it appears to be an issue with the archive script in the application data folder called Acronis. If I edit it with notepad the descriptions for comments then stay and show up properly. That is very important information to pass on to your Development team .

Thanks !

Erik"

I did clean installation of Acronis True Image 2011 with Plus Pack on my desktop, and after that created Bootable CD

Thank you Misvin! Also did the problem with comments ever get resolved, if so now ?

Thanks So much !!! : )

The problem is relevant when I use bootable CD. I didn't check the issue with desktop installed Acronis True Image.

Most bizarre, I have used Acronis versions 9 and 11 & never had his problem. I noticed this problem exists using the desktop version as well.
I am about to ditch Acronis and use Shadow Protect, I don't think Acronis is the same company or uses the same developers either, obviously something has seriously gone wrong with this company, I am back to using version 11, for the mean time
