Can't see my Synology DS411j on my Lan when using Recovery Media
I have a Synology DS411j on my lan along with my Desktop, From windows 7 on my desktop I can Backup and Restore from the NAS. When I boot with the recovery dvd I can'tsee the NAS. If I bootup my laptop and it connects to the lan (wirelessly) I can see the NAS and restore from it. Would appreciate any assistance. Thanks
Yes I can see windows shares.The funny thing is that if I have my laptop on and connected to the network my "Workgroup" shows and the NAS is available from that workgroup?
You mean from the Acronis DVD, right?
The fact that you can see what you need from Windows is not relevant to when you use the Acronis CD to boot. The CD is using a Linux version of ATI, and Linux drivers are not always supporting the same hardware as Windows drivers.
Are you positive you can see the network shares from the recovery CD, but not the Synology NAS?
With no windows shares on the netwok the NAS is not visible. When my laptop is on and it shows up on the network it shows as in "Workgroup" and then the NAS shows up as in the "Workgroup" and is accesible.
It looks like a network set up issue on the NAS rather than an ATI issue, but I am not competent enough to help you.

I obtained the report see attached and submitted a case under recovery issue. Case number is 01155259
I received a reply from Tech Support saying that the Recovery media is not compatible with wireless connections? I have no idea what that has to do with my problem as i am not connecting via wireless.
Because you mentioned "If I bootup my laptop and it connects to the lan (*wirelessly*) I can see the NAS and restore from it" and they misunderstood it as it's the laptop on which the media doesn't see NAS, not wiredly connected desktop.
The latest on my problem is that I found that Although my NAS doesn't show up in "Computers Near Me" or "FTP" automatically when I boot to the media I can access it by either creating an FTP connection or by selecting "Computers Near Me" and typing the UNC ( ie; "\\Diskstation\Backups") in the file types window and when it asks for Credentials typing "ADMIN and my password". What I'd like to know is whether the boot media can be made to automatically show the NAS like Windows TI does? In the windows version the NAS shows up in the "My Network" folder under Work Groups.
This is a linux driver issue. If you purchase the Plus Pack, you can create a WinPE-based recovery disk which has a much higher chance of seeing what you need, since it is using Windows drivers.
If it actually sees NAS but only after additional manual browsing, it's not even a (network card) driver issue, but it's a way samba from bootable media interacts with samba of the NAS, (something that Windows does so that NAS shows up on bootmable media is missing) and it's most likely not something to be fixed.
Further update. Tech Support says that the problem can't be fixed. I also tried the WinPe approach and found that it had even worse problems, Not only didn't the NAS show up but I couldn't even login or create an FTP connection like I can with the standard Recovery Media.
