Can't upgrade to Windows 10

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to do the Windows 10 upgrade and was originally presented with the "Some apps need to be uninstalled" prompt.

It listed two programs:

  • Acronis True Image Home 2012
  • Acronis True Image

I uninstalled 2012 but also had to run the cleanup utility to get that prompt to go away, however I'm stuck at the uninstall for Acronis True Image.  I'm guessing it's 7.0 as that's what I had long, long, ago.

I can't find any cleaner utility for it.

The only registry settings I found by searching regedit were:

HKLM\System\{CurrentControlSet,ControlSet001,ControlSet002}\Enum\Root\ACRONISDEVICES (Acronis Virtual Disk Bus) which can't be deleted.  Do you have any ideas on whether it's triggering on this or something else?

As far as your question try looking here  https://kb.acronis.com/content/34876

KenH,

Look again at the list of programs which are installed and look particulary

at the letter A  for any Aconis listing

at the letter M for any media or Aconris Media

at the letter T for any TrueImage listings

If you attempted to install  a new version and it failed, that residue is still there and needs the cleanup.

Also, the TI cleanup utility has several specific text instructions which require that the user inspect certain registry entries and if found, these specific entries must be removed.

If it were me, I would rerun the cleanu and double check the registry entries have been corrected.

I would also run "regedit" and do a manual search across all of the registry for any entires which read

Acronis

Thoroughly checked the installed list in control panels and nothing.

I'll try the cleanup utility again (is there an older version for TI 7 somewhere?).

I did boot with my Windows 7 disks, went into recovery, and deleted the HKLM\System\{CurrentControlSet,ControlSet001,ControlSet002}\Enum\Root\ACRONISDEVICES.  I think that was the only mention of acronis (besides obsolete PATH entries, which I also removed), but the update tool is still showing "Acronis True Image".  I'll do another sweep tonight.

I checked the programs control panel throughly and nothing for acronis, at all.

I booted my Windows 7 install media and loaded the registry hive and removed the HKLM\System\{CurrentControlSet,ControlSet001,ControlSet002}\Enum\Root\ACRONISDEVICES key.  I believe that was the only other Acronis references besides some obsolete PATH variables which I also cleaned up, but I'll run a scan again tonight.

I'll try running the cleanup tool again. Do you know if there's an older version that might still be sitting around somewhere?

I have been using Acronis True Image Home 2012 with Windows 7 operating system.

I decided to do the free upgrade to Windows 10 that was offered to me.

All went well until the installation program for W-10 said that I must uninstall Acronis because it was not compatible with W-10.

Does anyone know how recent the Acronis program must be to be compatible with Windows 10? I was considering updating my Acronis to a version which would be compatible with Windows 10.

Are there some wonderful features in the later versions of Acronis that might be worth paying extra for?

Thanks so much for your suggestions!

Eddie only TI 2015 and 2016 are compatible with Win 10.
