Change 2012 installation license number Info Update

Thread needs solution

I'm not sure if anyone on this forum can help with this problem, I have contacted Support but as yet have no reply.

I purchased 2 Licenses, 1 full and 1 upgrade. I received the numbers OK but there was no indication which to use for full or upgrade installation. I chose the wrong one !! 50-50 chance.

I have tried removing 2012 and installing 2010 and 2011 so as to install 2012 as update but when I install 2010 the system crashes and becomes unusable (won't boot). I have up to date backups and restored the system and tried again - same result.

I need the full version on a new system I just built but it will not accept "upgrade" License number.

Any ideas ??? Thanks for reading, Bob

I got around to installing TIH2012 on my new system, but it would not accept the serial #. I logged in to my account and d/l'd the latest version and installed (build 6131) - it worked !!
The information screen indicated that it was a trial version, at the prompts I moved the serial number from my laptop to the new HTPC. all "seems" OK, time will tell.

Many thanks for your help , Bob H. (I still have not heard from Support!)

If you enter the upgrade number, it should prompt you for the 'previous version' number. You don't have to have 2010 or 2011 installed.

Another way of finding out which is which is to register them under your account, then download the serial.txt, they will be correctly labelled in that file.

Thank you for your replies, I did as "dev-anon" suggested and it seems to be OK. It is now in the middle of it's first backup. This was something I never thought about.
Can you explain why the system crashed on my attempts to load 2010 ?? There must be something left behind when Windoze removes it.

Gee I wish M$ worked like Linux!

"Colin B" Since I have activated both numbers will I have a problem using the "full" number on my new system when I activate it ??

Another question - I use a Linux server with Samba sharing as my backup repository and noticed version 2012 takes almost 2 hours to backup 2 partitions totaling about 60 Gb, does this seem correct ??

Once again, thanks for your help, Bob H

Bob,

You may find it will complain about too many activations and allow you to transfer the serial to the correct PC.

The upgrade program is exactly the same as the full, it just has the extra install step of requiring a prior serial number. All you need to do on the other PC is to enter the 2010 serial and then the upgrade serial number.

Is it build 6131 that is causing the long backup times or 5545?
