Clone a disk problems

Thread needs solution

When I clone a drive, example: I have a 250gb drive call "Apps (P:)" I cloned it to a new 500gb drive. After I cloned it windows doesn't show it anywhere except under "disk management". Powerdesk doesn't show it, and neither does my computer. When I right click on it under disk managment the explore option is grayed out.
Cloning only works if I use the boot cd. (which I prefer not to use since I can't do anything on my computer while it's cloning) I could see if I was cloning my windows drive, but I'm cloning a removable drive.

After the cloing, has a drive letter been assigned. Normally, the DM will permit letter assignment.
Following the clone, are you instructed to reboot? (which may be necessary to get a letter auto assigned.)

The cloning is also giving you two identical drives with the same disk identifier which could be an issue without a reboot.

I removed the original drive and left the backup drive in and rebooted and it still won't show up. I had to use the bood cd and re-do the clone for it to work.

Did you look in Wiindows Disk Management to see if all it needed was a drive letter to be assigned? Did you try refreshing the status window?

Many of us prefer not to use the clone procedure because of its risks. Restoreing a disk option backup is preferred by many due to its safer approach and the master is never at risk.

It is possible that the results you are getting are all you can expect but I have not tested your procedures.

It had the same drive letter as the original had and refreshing does nothing. I actually switched to SyncBackPro for making a 1:1 backup of a drive. It Works much better. I now only use trueimage for backup of my windows drive.
