clone HD

Thread needs solution

With my Windows7 laptop, I can't clone my HD as I did in the XP version of Acronis.

Is it possible to use ICY BOX IB-120STU3-WH on my old XP-laptop and clone the two externel HD's with eachother?

On my new Acer Windows7 laptop it won't start during the cloning proces...
I thought (as a non-technic person) to buy the ICY box, put the two sata 2,5" drives in it and clone them externaly.....

Explain what you mean by your laptop won't start during the clone process? Have you read the documentation on the clone process? (Link below)

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIH2014/index.html#…

Clone is risky as it is quite likely that data corruption will occur however, it is supported by ATI. The documentation link describes how to perform a clone operation with the necessary steps involved when doing so for a laptop. Have a read and post back if you have problems. I would strongly suggest that you perform a full disk mode backup of your machine and validate that backup prior to attempting a clone operation just in case things go wrong.

On my XP-laptop, when I clone(d) my hdd to another hdd (in a usb docking station), Acronis calulates the space and what not.
Then, to continue the cloningprocess, Acronis has to start the laptop again.
After the restart, Windows is not loaded, but a DOS-like screen is shown, on wich I can follow the cloningprocess. percentages are shown.

Now, on my Windows7-laptop, Acronis starts the laptop again, but now I don't get the DOS-like screen. Windows7 is started, so the cloningprocess will not continue...

Is it a solution to use the ICY BOX IB-120STU3-WH (connected to my "old" XP-laptop) for cloning my two windows7 HDD's?
Or is it better (faster) to use two seperate dockingstations? Sadly my XP-laptop as only usb2 ports

You should do the cloning from the Acronis recovery CD. Do not clone starting the operation from Windows.

Well, I cloned my HDD as described above for four years and neven had a problem.....
It worked perfect.
I didn't know I was not supposed to clone this way.

I think I tacled the problem: my laptop was original a Windows8 laptop but is "downgraded" to Windows7. After that, an extra partition is made.
The laptopseller and the helpdesk of Acronis in The Netherlands told me, that this is the problem and can't be solved without formatting the HDD. That is not an option.

Now I bought two dockingstations (usb3) and clone the win7 HDD on my XP laptop.

problem solved.....
