Cloned boot drive but now backup drive is dead.
I cloned my laptops boot drive onto a laptop drive in an external enclosure. The cloning progressed steadily and when the cloning was finished Acronis said something like Action Success. Then I tried to boot my computer with the external drive but got nothing but a flashing - After several minutes of waiting I replaced the original boot drive with the cloned drive and got the same thing. If I boot with the orginal boot drive the computer works fine. If I try to access the cloned drive after booting with the boot drive, the computer doesn't recognize the drive. If I put a different drive in the external enclosure, the computer reads it fine. Could the cloning have killed the drive? Is there anything else I should try to regain access to it?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It turned out the hdd is fine. There just wasn't any readable data on it. I was able to reformat it and will try to clone with other software.

Doug,
Not knowing the specific brand of your laptop, be aware that some brands need what is referred to as a "reverse" clone. Also not sure what version of Acronis is in use?
Some brands take special procedures--such as the Lenova & Thinkpad. The reason being that these brands have special drive geometry and when cloned to another location, true replication is not achievd.
Try this
1. Remove the old drive and put it in the external case.
2. Insert the new blank drive inside the laptop in its intended boot position.
3. Boot from the Rescue CD.
4. Perform the clone using the manual method and resize only the your normal drive C (see note)
5. Do not resize any the other partitions.
6. After completion, shut down and remove the external attachment so the first bootup following the clone is only with the new drive attached.
Note1: Suggest you assign a unique name to your normal C partition--such as Win7_C
Note2: If unable to resize, then clone the disk "as is" and we can resize later in another post.
Note3: An easy way to make the new drive blank again (all unallocated) is to do so when booted from the TI Rescue CD and use the Add Disk feature which takes only seconds.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply.
My computer is an Alienware so it is essentially a Dell and I used True Image Home 2010. Sorry I am should be in the Home forum but I didn't realize that until too late.
