Cloned disk

Thread needs solution

I have spent several hours searching various forums for an answer to this and there are many related discussions but always some particular idiosyncrasy that doesn't quite match my question which i am hoping has a simple yes/no answer.

I have four disks in two RAID 1 arrays. First array has the OS installed on it, second array has all data. RAID is hardware enabled. OS is Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1.

What I would like to do is replace the OS array with a single SSD.

Can I clone to the single SSD from the array, remove the array and boot using the SSD?

I have no issues about the definitions of backup/clone/RAID, pulling disks in and out etc. I just want to know if I can use this as a shortcut round the whole re-install time consuming essentially boring procedure.

Thanks in advance for your patient responses.

If you leave the controller mode as is (i.e. RAID), a backup of the RAID array and subsequent restore to an SSD should work as you are describing.

Be sure to have your Windows 7 install media, or Windows 7 system recovery disk available in case it's needed to run a Startup Repair after the restore.
