Cloning. Black screen on restart

Thread needs solution

I have a brand new HP envy PC. The stock bootable drive is a 2TB. I'm trying to clone the stock drive to a new crucial MX100 256GB drive. Acronis True Image HD2014 installs fine. I go through all the steps for cloning a drive and Acronis says that a restart is required. I click ok. The system shuts down and then seems to restart... but it isn't a full boot. I hear the drives spinning and the PC's lights are on but there is no display. Thinking this was part of the cloning process i left is for several(~3hrs). After realizing that nothing was happening I cycled the power and repeated the same process and recieved the same black screen results.
Ideas, solutions? Any help is appreciated. I'm running Acronis from the windows .exe I downloaded and registered. The OS is Windows 8.1 and this is a brand new HP Envy PC.

for cloning you need these articles from the Acronis knowledge base :
Laptop
HTTPS://KB.ACRONIS.COM/COM/CONTENT/2931
HTTPS://KB.ACRONIS.COM/COM/CONTENT/48386

There exist alternate theories in the forum. I have not tried a desktop unit as of now with 2014 or 2015

just look in the knowledge base online at Acronis for the particulars you don't need a link your already there

@Frederick,

Do not initiate the clone operation from Windows. Boot the computer on the Acronis recovery CD and run ATI installed on it, not the Windows version.
