Cloning hdd + ssd cache does not work

Thread needs solution

We are having problems with HP 650 G1, 500Gb hdd + 30 ssd cache. If disks are configured to raid mode(as needed to get ssd cache acceleration), it cannot be cloned to similar computer. Cloning does not say any error but the cloned computer does not boot. If disks are in achi mode everything works but you don't get the ssd cache benefit.

Any solution for this problem?

Using Intel Rapid Storage Technology I suspect? You must reactivate SSD caching on the target machine after clone is performed. The clone process will only copy the image of your HDD to the target. You then need to turn on RAID by enabling that in your bios on the target then, using the IRST console enable SSD caching.

Thanks for the post. We managed succesfully clone it. Windows is installed in ahci mode. Disk is cloned in ahci mode. After clone to new computer we installed intel rst, hack the registry ja change bios to raid mode. Also ssd cache acceleration works now. Thank you. This is good enough solution for us.

Just wondering why the cloning in raid mode does not work? If the windows is installed in raid mode, no arrays configured and cloned to new similar computer, why it is not working? Windows will not boot in the cloned computer...

Intel Rapid Storage Technology uses it's own RAID driver to enable SSD caching of an HDD, a simulated Hybrid drive so to speak and is therefore not true RAID. It is a slight of hand so to speak. To the best of my knowledge it is the only solution to achieve an SSD accelerated HDD. These RAID drivers contain AHCI as a subset so as to allow non RAID operation if desired.

Your boot issue could be several things such as physical disk placement during clone, target disk not set as active, incorrect boot order in bios, to name a few. There are many more.
