A cloning question from a newbie
I have True Image 11. I've usually just done back ups.
Now I am trying to make an exact copy of drive that was installed in a laptop.
There are reasons to believe that this drive has an internal problem but the data on it is OK.
I have one IDE to USB adapter and an external HD that is much larger than the drive with the problem.
Using a desktop PC I cloned the laptop drive to the external drive.
The laptop is fairly old and the HD it had is no longer available, but can be had on eBay etc. I want to use an equivalent drive to avoid getting tangled up in any BIOS issues.
The Question: Will cloning from the larger external drive to a "new" laptop drive preserve the amount of space etc. of the old laptop drive? It is pretty near full.
I am doing this for a neighbor retiree and I am trying to keep expenses down. I know that I could buy a drive and another IDE to USB adapter and clone that way, but I am trying to get away with what I have on hand.
Thanks,
Charlie
