Complete backup deletion stalls on Win 8.1 64Bit Win Surface 2 Pro 256GB Tablet

Thread needs solution

Hello,

when I try to completely remove an existing backup residing on an external hard drive attached via an
USB 3.0 Hub to my Windows Surface 2 Pro Tablet (256 GB) Acronis 2015 shows a little message box ["Backup wird gelöscht"] (in English: Backup about to be deleted), but than happens nothing.
You can wait forever, the message does not go away and the backup file does not disappear.
You have to shut down the Acronis 2015 task with the windows task manager and then delete the backup file with the Windows Explorer.

What might be wrong. Window 8.1 is fully up to date.

Just removing the backup entry from the list works fine.

Wolfgang

The issue could be the USB Hub you are connected to. Try removing the Hub and attach directly to drive from your machine and see if that helps.

Hello

@Enchantech

First: thanks for the quick response.

I did the test.
I connected the USB 3.0 external HDD directly to the (only) USB 3.0 Port the MS Surface tablet has.
No change at all.
The circle in the notification box ("Backup about to be deleted")
spins forever.

So the USB3.0 HUB seems not to be the problem.
Sorry.

Annotation - the whole thing works well on my desktop with Win 7 64 Bit

Wolfgang

Make sure that your USB 3.0 drivers are the latest version. Make certain that any timeout or sleep settings for USB in Win 8.1 are disabled. Make certain that your machine bios and chipset drivers are the lastest versions as well.

In a recent build I had to update bios, chipset, USB 3.0 drivers, and turn on the EHCI feature in the bios before I could get USB 3.0 ports to work correctly. Not saying that it will fix this in your case but it does pay to check all possibilities. I have found as well that mass produced machines differ from one build to another in setup so do some digging.
