Computer won't recognize full capacity of new HD?
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this situation I am having. Well, I tried to search the forums but nobody was having the EXACT same problem I am having. So, I had a 150 Western Digital HD in my laptop. It was getting kind of sluggish and had only 25GB of free space left. I bought a new Hitachi 500GB 7200rpm Travel Star(which got AMAZING reviews on New Egg).
So, I purchased ATI 2010 and initially created a "sector-by-sector" backup image of the 150GB (old) drive. I did some researching and found out that when you backup sector-by-sector it backs up not only the used space but even the empty space on the drive? Well I thought to myself, I just shafted myself out of 25GB of disk space because I had only used 125GB and the capacity is 150GB and the image is 150GB so that means somewhere in the image there is 25GB of "unused" disk space. So I created another backup but this time I did not check the sector-by-sector box and I also used no compression because I wanted it to backup faster. I have an image of 125gb HD. I installed my new Hitachi 500gb drive and restored it with ATI2010. I checked the "Disk1" option which also selects the MBR option also. So I boot up my PC and I right click on my C: drive and select properties. It show the capacity as 149GB and free space of 25GB like on my old drive? I should have 350GB of free space? However Disk Management recognizes all 500GB of the drive which is really weird? I really appreciate any help I can get. Thank you all!

Avis:
Yes; restore the image again but this time select only the Windows partition and not the entire disk. When you select one partition at a time the restore wizard will present you with a screen that lets you change the size of the restored partition. Make it fill your entire 500 GB disk. When you select the entire disk like you did you won't see the resize dialog box.
