Confused Between Incremental OR Differential Backup
Hi
I am confused between Incremental and Differential Backup.
I have created a FULL backup and now I want to only add the new files to my TIB file.
Which backup method is the best for me to use?
There are three options for the backup.
1. Full
2. Incremental (recommended)
3. Differential
I have used Full backup. My question is, since I used Full backup now if I only want to add new files to the existing backup such as new pics, mp3 files, doc files etc I need to use the incremental backup and provide the source to add in to the already existing backup TIB file.
This is where it gets confusing because I only want to add new files. Why acronis is creating another FULL Backup Image.
Dont you think acronis true image is just wasting time and system resources {space} by creating a new image file besides of adding just the new files into the backup.
Please let me know.
Take care

It really depends on what you are doing with your files and how often you might need to perform restores. A differential backup can be thought of as a "cumulative incremental". Incrementals are relatively small and quick to create, whereas differentials grow and take slightly longer to create each time. For a full recovery you need all the incrementals in sequence, but only the last differential.
If you only need to occasionally restore one or two files (due to accidental deletions or mistakes) then incrementals are probably better for you.

Hi
I have already created a TIB file using the FULL Backup.
Now this is what I would like to do.
From now on I just want Acronis to add any new files {pics, movies, mp3, documents, etc}
If I pick incremental backup and provide the source of existing backup file that I have created using the FULL Backup Method than acronis does not recognize the file and it creates a new TIB file.
What is the solution of my problem.
Again I want to add files to an already created TIB file.
Why Acronis is creating a NEW TIB file from the SCRATCH besides of adding just new files?
Perhaps there is a bug in the 2010 version. My version is up to date
Any suggestions.
Take care

I understand your situation sure sounds like it would be easy. and in v9, v10 and v11 it would be trivial. in ti_2010 I just don't know, I think we are out luck (reason #10,438 why acroni's dam recovery catalog needs to be abolished)

If you want an incremental back up set, you shouldn't be creating a FULL back up first.
Delete your existing tib file and archive, and start again.
This time, select incremental back up as your choice, NOT full. The first time it backs up it will still create a full back up, but the next time it runs, will add to it with incremental back ups.
Your mistake was trying to add increments to your FULL back up archive.
Begin with incremental... it will still create a full back up first time it's run, but from then on, will add to it.

People are explaining it correctly, but I'm pretty sure that it's a product defect. I have been experiencing the exact same problem. I set up the Incremental backup. The first time, it creates the full backup as expected. But subsequent times it appears to be doing another new full backup and takes hours before it finally runs out of hard drive space and fails.
Good luck getting a response from their support. I emailed them over two weeks ago and haven't received a response. Horrible customer service!
I really want to like this product, but they are making it very hard to do so.
