Consolidate Backup Versions - Maintenance Issue

Thread needs solution

When I try to consolidate my backup images, there appears to be a real issue. An issue that is either a program issue or a user-malfunction (me)...

Selecting the gear on a specific backup, selecting more, then choosing Consolidate Backups, presents a screen with a large number of backups. In fact, it is a history of all the backups I've ever done, wanted to do, or one-time-backups for specific systems.

Over the years, I've deleted old backups (either manually or through Acronis because Acronis didn't let me), consolidated backups (works great) or upgraded my system and setup new backups.

Either way, the end result is a growing list of backups that can be consolidated even though they no longer exist. The list shows up in the Consolidate Backups list, and I can't find a way to remove them.

Yes, I've right-clicked them, chose to consolidate them, been given the message they don't exist, said OK, and that particular incremental backup is removed. Going though the list that way, eventually leaves the "master" copy, then the error changes and tells me I need more than one copy of the backup in order to consolidate backups and leaves the "master" visible - though it too is long gone.

How do I get them out of the list? Where do I need to look to manually remove them from the list (Registry, file or something)?

Please someone help...

I've found what I believe to be the location for the listed backups (C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database). The list is stored in XML format, called Archives.xml.

Examination of the XML file reveals that the backups I want out of the list exist there, and could easily be edited out. Not a problem for me.

However, I am reluctant to do so because I do not know what effects it will have on other portions of Acronis.

If anyone has an idea or answer, I would greatly appreciate it.

You can copy the xml file and keep a renamed copy as a backup copy of that file, then you can attempt to edit but I believe the edit does not get it all.

The xml file will recreate itself with no data so you choose to delete or rename the working copy.

My suggest would be just to start over with a new task pointing to a new folder and do NOT use consolidation but use the "automatic cleanup". click link 2 below and look at illustrations 11-C or 11-Dif. Change the 6 and 4 examples to meet your needs.
This method will be a simple program delete of the old files as they revolve into the delete roster when the time comes for removal--always keeping the "keep no more than X recent version chains."

Thank you. That was just the answer I was looking for.

I really appreciate it!

What was your results in editing?

Clear channel... I was very careful to match up names, etc. then delete them. Very meticulous; but worth it.
