Consolidation Not Working At All

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

We use TrueImage 2014 and have had nothing but problems with the automatic consolidation "feature" of the software.

We have 4 separate backup jobs setup as below:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday - Full
Tuesday, Thursday - Full

Monday, Wednesday, Friday - Incremental
Tuesday, Thursday - Incremental

They're setup like that for time's sake really, if we have time we will run a full backup, if not then an incremental will be run.

Our issue comes down to when our backup job (especially the incremental) hits it's auto clean-up limit of about 5 previous versions.

When this happens, the backup simply fails usually with an error saying Acronis can't access one of the tib files it is trying to consolidate, I've checked and nothing else has that file open.

Other times it will try to consolidate and simply take HOURS to do about 5%, in the end we simply cancel it as this is only a small backup of about 40GB of data, it shouldn't take that long.

I've seen threads with similar problems and they say they just turn off consolidation, this isn't a solution, we only have small disks and have a incremental backup with a full and then lots of other incremental's doesn't sound ideal.

I've tried recreating the jobs, reading existing jobs and numerous other things but still the consolidation fails.

Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

Consolidation is a time and resource hog. Acronis software creates a new consolidated backup from the selected backups by calculating changes through the whole chain, then deletes the selected backups. Because of this you must make sure that you have sufficient disk space to accommodate the process.

You mention that your backup scheme is set in the interest of time sake. Unfortunately consolidation is counter-intuitive to that. Consolidation was a seldom used feature of True Image and was dropped in the 2015 version all together.
