copy windows7 image (non active) to another xp partition (active)
Hi,
I have an image (version 11) with (dualboot) xp and windows7.
I want to remove xp from my drive with is primary active and restore my version windows7 which is primary but not active.
Is this possible, to copy windows7 on this xp (active) partition?
Thanks for your response.
John

Thanks, when I receive my SSD, i shall look over for it for installing my w7 to, what you describe, to an active partition.
When not, it cost a lot of more handling to install.

I suggest you search this forum for something like "SSD alignment". SSDs apparently do not like the the standard 63 sector offset provided when a disk is formatted with XP. They like a 2048 sector offset so the SSD's "tracks" are aligned properly. Failure to get the tracks aligned can result in a severe loss of SSD speed. It seems the easiest way to get the correct offset is to format the disk with W7.
I don't have a SSD so this is about all I can tell you about it.

Thanks for warning me, but I think, that the image from my W7 ultimate is aligned to this 2048 (NTFS) and when I am going to format the SSD I automaticly take this aligned 2048.
But I shall look over this, when I got this SSD this week.
I have seen the article, so it require more intention than I thougt.
Look further for this, again thanks
