Copying Archive Images to removeable disk

Thread needs solution

In TrueImage 2012 I was able to copy a partition image backup to a removeable disk for off site storage. I was able to add the copied backup image to the list of backups, and run a validation on it so I could be sure that it had copied to the removeable disk correctly.

In Trueimage 2013, I can still copy the image (which is now in its own folder), but I can't get it into the list of backups. I can go to the Browse for Backups button, navigate to my copied backup, click add to list many times, but it still doesn't show in the list of backups. Can anyone please suggest how I can validate my copy?

You don't need to have a backup file or task listed in the ATI to be able to recover or validate.
Whenever such a TIB file is not listed, go directly to it using Windows Explorer; right click on it, choose archives, validate or recover.

Thanks Pat, before I right clicked on the folder name Acronis gave to it, and validate wasn't listed in the True Image options. This time I right clicked on the first file, and the validate started. Interesting though, it was runing under the name/location of the original backup - thereby lossing the info that it had already been validated. After a minute or so it reported the validation had failed - but I get this fairly regularily, thats why I want to check the external drive backups. It is a USB3 drive - copies to it are frequently corrupted.

Thanks again.

Richard,

In 2013, I find that when I try to add a backup file(s), I frequently need to perform the "browse" and "add to backup list" action more than once to get it to show up in the list. Also be sure you don't have the "favorites" star selected when you add the backups, since they will not show up until you turn the "favorites" only view off. If you have a task on your "Backup and Recovery" tab, and you copy the backup file associated with the task to a new location, you may not be successful adding the new copy back into your list, as the Tue Image database already contains information about the backup file(s). That is why you are getting the issue with the backup validation pointing to the original name/location. Both files are the same (internally) to Acronis and it confuses the database. If you remove the task and then add the copied file to the backup list, it will validate correctly (provided the file(s) are indeed not corrupted). You could use a third party utility to copy the files (such as Teracopy), that can perform file verification between the original and the copy. Another option is to use a utility, such as the Marxio File Checksum Viewer, to calculate a file checksum of the original file(s) before copying, and to compare the checksums of the original and copied files (I use SHA-256). If the file verification fails, there is no use in trying to have Acronis validate the file(s). Both of these tools can also be useful to help identify issues between your computer and the USB3 drive that are causing the copied files to fail (bad cable, poor USB3 drivers, hardware issues, etc.).
