Corrupted computer cannot see external drive with critical backup file

Thread needs solution

My PC became badly corrupted after performing a simple System Restore and can no longer recognize any remote storage, not even flash drives.

The external drive has a backup file made just before the evil event, and I would love to give True Image a shot a recovering my system. I copied the backup file from the drive to a laptop, but can't get it from there to my HPdesktop PC.

Using Dropbox would require four days of uploading to complete that portion of the transfer, and I can't say it's working. I cancelled after a few hours when dropbox reported it was still indexing the file.

SugarSync tech support is working to find out why their software choked. I tried a Share program via the Samsung laptop, and after going back to my HP, I was able to initiate initiated a download which aborted after one second.

Can someone think of anything I can do? If it works, I may be able to avoid the reformatting.

(This is posted while I wait forever for chat session to open. I'm getting desperate!)

I'm cconfused. If you have a full disk backup, made using Acronis True Image, on an external drive why would you need to copy it to a laptop? If you need to recover your desktop PC, what does your laptop have to do with the issue?

To restore from the .tib image, boot from the ATI2013 bootable Rescue Media (either on CD-R or USB flash drive) with the external drive connected, and Restore that backup image. There are tutorials in the left margin of this forum.
