CPU used by > 50% without any Backup Jobs

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I found some thoughts for TrueImage 2013 about a very high CPU usage after system start and how to handle it.

I am using last version of TI 2013. The button "Search for Backups on start up" is not active.
(on Win7 / 64 system)

I have the problem, that my system is sometimes nearly blocked during the day.
there is no backup job running / sheduled
CPU usage is > 50% for at least one hour and logfile tells me
"local disks have been searched for backup files" (translated from German logfile)
and "Error while opening configuration file"

whats that and what can I do

Have you tried running a repair install of 2013?

When the high CPU usage is happening, open up Windows Resource Manager and see if you can find the part of TI 2013 or any othe rprogram that such as DLLHOST that is shown as using high CPU/RAM use.

Has this always happened or just suddenly started?

What other utilities are running in the background such as InCD, Drag2Disk?

The error message, is that when you open TI or just after booting into Windows? I ask because TI doesn't search for backups until you actually open the GUI, unless a scheduled task is due to start.

If you disable the Acronis scheduler service in Services.msc (note TI won't work with this service disabled) does the high CPU problem still occur?

I have nearly identical symptoms. After a cold start and stopping all applications (except Skype) that start automatically with a re-boot, I invoked True Image 2013. All was normal. When I invoked ‘Settings’, True Image jumped to a range of 49-54% CPU usage (from task manager reading), CPU Idle to a range of 45-57% CPU, and Skype 0%. In the lower right corner was displayed, “Backup size calculating …” The latter was still visible when I left for lunch. When I added a 1K file to the file backup list, the CPU busy desktop gadget said 95-100% usage. I was unable to invoke Task Manager due to the CPU overload.

True Image 2013 was remotely installed by Acronis Level Two Support two days ago to overcome a Product Key problem.

Please send me some magic dust to sprinkle over my beloved machine, so I can rest assured that I am computing within a rosy backed up environment.

Bud,

Even though it has just been reinstalled, i would be inclined to run the installer again and select the repair option. Before doing that I would also temporarily disable the firewall and any background programs that run apart form those Windows itself requires. After the installation, I would then close the PC down and then cold reboot.
