creating a new versions of Win 7 in a new disk using a .tib file of a bootable partition on a different disk

Thread needs solution

I created a .tib file created with a rescue disk of a bootable partition on one disk, and tried to use establish a primary bootable partition on a new, smaller disk, where the new partition would occupy the entire smaller disk. I could not get it to work. It hung up. I had removed the original, larger disk and placed the new disk in its place on the 1st SATA port on my older computer. I was unable to prepare the new disk [ it had some old crap on it] using any of your utilities. Nor would Restore work to overwrite the new disk with the new OS using the .tib file. Is the software incapable of doing this? The source disk has win XP on its 1st partition, then Win 7 on its second partition, then two data partitions on the same disk, for a total of 4 distinct partitions.

Any helpful suggestions, other than to re-install windows 7 on a new drive?

Myron,
I believe the software is capable of performing the task, but it may not be automated. It sounds like you have a dual boot configuration? And that you are hoping to only restore one of the booting OS partitions to a new drive? Bigger or smaller... even with enough free space, the OS partition being restored needs to be properly identified and know where to start itself from. This may require editing of the boot.ini (older OS) or boot manager.... Additionally, a partition may have to be remarked as active or primary (etc). You might be able to accomplish this with a OS install CD, using the recovery console or by performing a start up repair... I'm only able to take stabs at this based on the information you've provided above.
