Deleting backups odd behaviour
I am trying to delete a set of backup files (full backup plus 3 following incrementals) in ATIH2012. This is taking a very long time - so far about 45 minutes for approximately 200GB of backup data files. Also, ATIH is creating a copy of a backup file that is unrelated to the set I want to delete, with a name of UserData2011-07-17_0900_FBF6C99F-1E67-4A42-ACB3-CFE6CF471D7D3.tib. What is happening here? I've had to delete the backup files using Windows explorer to allow this copy to be made - it looks like the 'deleting versions' function is broken...

Colin,
The retention settings I have are:
Create a full version after 7 incremental versions
Store no more than 3 recent version chains
BTW, the backup today produced another full backup after only one incremental in the previous version chain, the previous version chain has only 6 incrementals, and the oldest version chain has 7 incrementals. I'll be interested to find out what happens when the next backup happens - whether the oldest incremental chain is deleted OK and how long this takes.
After 3 hours the temporary file had grown to 60GB, at which point I stopped it growing any further by shutting down my machine.
The images are saved on a local drive.

Perhaps the Acronis data base has become confused. Why not create a new task with a new name and pointing to a new storage folder. Contrary to the instructions from Acronis, many users have found their est chance of success is not include any other backup tasks within the same storage folder. The 690GB sounds like it was on its way to a full backup.
You can expect the full to be about 65-75% (depending upon data type) of used space on the drives being backed up. The size of the incremental will depend upon how much data is changed. Do not run any defrag program except immediately prior to a full backup. Any disk sector changes or file movement will be included within the incremental.
The new task could have the same rules as before. 6-7 incrementals plus keep 3-4 chains.
