Dell OptiPlex 380 Disk Image

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I just purchased a new Dell OptiPlex 380 running Win7 Pro. I format the HD annually and I want to create, and store, an image for post formatting installation. My question...Dell PCs come partioned with a recovery drive. Are there any special steps in creating an exact image that could potentially be restored to a different (new) hard drive?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

The type of backup you need should you need to replace your disk is a backup of the entire disk which includes all partitions. This is pictured below.

When you restore a backup, it wipes away what is there and puts the backup in its place. Sometimes, things goes wrong due to a variety of reasons. In order to properly prepare for an disk failure, etc, you need to test your restore procedures. This is best done by you having a second disk.

One rule most of the old timers practice is that you do not spoil a good drive (restore a backup) until you know your restore procedures will produce a satisfactory result. Until you test your procedures, you have not proven your recovery plan works.

Thanks GroverH. Would I need the Plus Pack to accomplish the above if I were to upgrade my HD and perform a restore (from a dissimilar device) in the future?

Yes, the regular TrueImage is designed to restore to the same or a new drive but using the same computer.

If want to restore to dissimilar hardware, you will need the Plus Pack.
