demondata.swapfile.dat and itzmlock files

Thread needs solution

I am running Acronis True Image 2014 Premium Family Pack Build 6673

Out of the blue my system temp folder is ending up with files that look this:
BVVATH0L~DemonData.swapFile.dat~.itzamlock
V9ASL27R~DemonData.swapFile.dat~.itzamlock
PQ4CR6UJ~DemonData.swapFile.dat~.itzamlock
C745SFUD~DemonData.swapFile.dat~.itzamlock
Q0SFRD36~DemonData.swapFile.dat~.itzamlock
TE5S6UH0~DemonData.swapFile.dat~.itzamlock
VVA8Q0KB~DemonData.swapFile.dat~.itzamlock
VGICN7D9~DemonData.swapFile.dat~.itzamlock

I have never seen these before but recently they are appearing every day. Some research has suggested these should disappear but these don't any more.

When I try to delete them, the delete command is refused saying the file is protected against deletion. I can over-ride this and delete each file manually.

My temp folder is not in the the default windows location but on a separate disk drive and folder from C:.

Is this a bug? Is there a fix? Why did this start recently - I have been running ATIH 2014 6673 since February?

Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions or comments

Hi Lloyd,

thank you for your posting!

These temp files are created during file backup and should be automatically deleted after backup is successfully created. In your case they cannot be deleted because some process locks them.

So the first our step is to determine which process locks them. Please find here an instruction.

Thank you.

Hi Anna
Sorry, I didn't see you post until this evening.

After more investigation, I have discovered that the ITZMLOCK files are created with the READONLY attribute. This means that any attempt to delete them will be refused. When I turn the readonly attribute off the files can be easily deleted.

So, the question now is: why are these files created with the readonly attribute?

FYI - files in my temp folder created by other apps do not have the readonly attribute.
Any thoughts?

Thanks - lloyd
