disc clone on dell dimension4400 only boots in safe mode
Hi All;
I cloned my hd on a dell dimension4400 desktop--XP home flavor....I can only get a boot in safe mode or to the command prompt..it will not boot to safe mode+networking or into windows...if I try these two modes it flashes and starts into cold boot mode, ending at the screen where I have the boot choice menu...command...safe mode...safe mode+networking or windows.....I tried to clone manually, automatically, forward and reverse, switched jumpers from cable select to master/slave...no differences...the clone succeeds every time, no errors....my original hd will boot just fine still...I am cloning it because it's near full. In safe mode the cloned disc looks like it is fine...
help!!!!!!!!
Thanks
Phil

Tell us a little more about the procedures you used for cloning your XP home desktop.
1. What version of TrueImage?
2. Did Clone occur when booted from the TI Rescue CD?
3. On first boot following clone, was the clone the only disk attached?
4. What was the location of the old and the new during the cloning?

Gary,
I have not tried this at all...may be my next step...
GroverH,
1)TrueImage home 2010
2) I booted/cloned from the rescue cd, I was using the clone utility
3) I have tried first boot with and without the old disc attached.
4)I switched the cable positions of the discs, I switched the jumpers...tried cable select and master/slave, both discs are internal IDE hard drives., nothing really seems "wrong" with the finished disc when I boot in plain safe mode..everything seems O.K.....the original hard drive still boots like a champ...I tried the manual mode, but the choices basically ended up as if I used the automatic mode..I have cloned before, regular hard drives, one partition, not the dell partition type, and had good results.
Thanks--Phil

Use Disk Management and look at the graphical view of both disks.
1. How many partitions and are any hidden or non-lettered?
2. Did TrueImage change the size on every partition on the new disk?
3. If there are differences in the two disks (other than size of C), it might be helpful to post a picture of both disks as shown in Disk Management.
4. The suggestion offered by Gary is a real possibility
Sometimes TI changes partition sizes proportionally (even in manual mode) and the user must correct the change if the change is not wanted. This especially applies to any recovery or diagnostic partitions. These type partitions should be retained at original size. It helps to have the exact size, type of partition, active, etc--all written down so you can compare the changes that TI intends to take.
If you reclone, after the cloning, I would place the new disk on the same connector as the old boot disk and leave the ribbon cable on the old disk disconnected--on first boot following the cloning.
Or, if you do a restore, I would again position the drives for first boot the same as the preceding paragraph.
