Disc copy doesnt work

Thread needs solution

I have a 500GB Seagate drive that works fine. I used Acronis to copy this to a 1Tb drive. (Both are SATA2)

When I boot from the new drive it seems to work OK, except that at some point ( from a few mins to an hour ror so later) after booting up, the machine locks up. The symptoms are:

Drive light stays on constantly. Resource Monitor shows 100% highest active time (although there are no processes shown accessing the drive). Applications running all show "(not responding)" on them. After some time, I get a BSOD ( A process or thread crucial to the system.......).

I have run Seatools and it reports nothing wrong. The disc copy seems to have worked OK as well.

I have tried several boot methods: just changing the boot sequence and also switching the cables to make the new drive a lower drive number. Neither has worked

Does anyone have any suggestions?

"Copy" is not an Acronis True Image function. What did you do? Did you Clone, or do a Backup and Restore? If the latter, make sure you do a full disk backup, selecting the disk which thereby selects all partitions.

Sorry - I meant clone. I created a boot disc and used that to clone the 500Gb to the 1Tb disc.
