Disk backup

Thread needs solution

I have 1.1 TB of data to backup I have a USB 3.0 size of 2.0 TB so I can only keep a single backup at one time. I have set the schedule to weekly as the files do not change a lot per week. I use the full disk image of 2 drives one the OS drive the other is the data drive. I have set scheme to single version it worked for awhile. Know once it gets the one backup stored and goes to do a second I get the disk is full error. I cannot be sure but I think is due to a update of program. I have True Image 2014 premium build 6673. I have recently set the scheme to full and turned on the automatic cleanup and set it to 1 version to see if it will complete successfully week after week.

My questions are.
1. should it delete the old before it creates the new backup?
2. Is there a rule of thumb for the sizing a backup drive, 2 to 1 or is 1 to 1 ok?
3. Should a person always allow for enough space to store 2 complete backups?
4. What settings do I need for the single version to work consistently using the disk backup?

By default, ATI will first complete a new full backup BEFORE erasing anything. You could run a command line pre backup to erase any existing file in the backup directory.
You could also consider a simple file copy or sync for the content files. Many users have a lot of videos, movies, photos. These are files that don't change much if at all, and are already compressed. Using ATI to back them up is in fact risky, because if you cannot complete your backup or if the TIB file gets corrupted, you don't have any backup at all.

The minimum size for the backup size is, IMO 2.5 to 3x the size a full backup. More if you intend to keep more than one full and a few incrementals.

Thanks for the response, looks like my problem came from the fact my data grew too large for the scheme and size of drive I was using.

Yes, to back up 1.1TB, you will need something larger than a 2TB disk.
A 3TB will enable Acronis to keep 1 chain on a rotating basis with a few incrementals.

AS MVP Pat has indicated, before it deletes the old backup, it makes a new one first and then does the delete so you need temp space for 2 full backups plus the space used by any incrementals.

This is an example that will work if on a 3TB disk but instead of keep 4 chains, that must be changed to keep 1 chain although, with compression, you might have room for one additional chain.
GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. 6 Inc, Keep 4 chains. The 6-4 is user choice.

Perhaps use the old too small storage disk for storing some static video files, etc to reduce the amount of data being backed up each full.
