disk image created via bootable rescue cd is validated, but validation under Windows fails

Thread needs solution

I have created a disk image (entire system disk) using a bootable rescue cd, freshly created with Acronis True image. I choosed to validade backup archive when it is created. My disk image seems to have been flawlessly created (my PC has two internal hds, disk image created in the secondary hd)

After, I rebooted my PC under Windows XP and opened Acronis True Image Home. Then I asked it to validate such disk image. Again and again, the validation process fails. I get a message saying:
... operation with partition '0-0' was terminated ... archive corrupted ...

I read elsewhere that it would be wise to run checkdisk c: /f and try again. I did it, my primary hd seems ok, but the above history repeats again and again.

So, I'm stuck ... is my disk image ok or not ? may I trust it ?

My best regards, and my thanks to those willing to help me.

You should run chkdsk with the /r option, not /f.

If the archive validates on the CD, you are in good shape. Hardware issues in windows are preventing the completion.

Hi Dilermando and Pat,

Thank you for your comments! Pat, thanks a lot for your help.

Dilermando, I absolutely agree with Pat, and just wanted to add that in case the chkdsk /r command doesn't help, you might want to refer to the following KB article with the instructions related to the situation when the backup is reported to be corrupted.

Regarding the chkdsk command: /f parameter fixes the faults of the file system, and in your case we needed to check the consistency of the sector on the drive. And that's exacty what /r parameter does. We usually recommend to run the both together: chkdsk /f /r. Just FYI, as I thought you might get interested in it.

Thank you!
