Dual Boot, XP and Ver 8. How it might be done

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have XP on now. I have new Win 8 disk. I wish to dual boot with two partitions on primary. disk. I have XP backups on another physical disk. I wish to dual boot to see how Win 8 will work for me, if not I still have XP.

Can you say if this is possible with True Image 2014. I am trying to back up XP, Repartition prim. disk seperately. Install Win 8 on new partition, back up Win 8. Then if needed Restore either partition ?

Can you say, if Win 8 seems OK, would it be possible to transfer my files into Win 8 ?

I know that is a lot to ask. I am asking basically, is it possible. Can it work ?

Thanks,

Wayne

If you are going to dual boot suggest you use a good third party bootloader. Do not use the builtin Windows bootloader as it will place all the boot files into the first partition making a restore almost impossible.

I do not recommend dual boot at all so will not recommend a bootloader.

OK, Say I do not dual boot. I will Have to change to Win 8 anyway. Can you say what the trouble would be to transfer my files and stuff from my XP backups on my other physical disk to my new Win 8 install on my primary disk ?

Thanks for the advice,

Wayne

There are some choices in doing that. An app called PC Mover was available for a while as a free download, not sure if it is still available. You can also use Windows Easy File Transfer. The link below has a tutorial on that and a download link.

You might also look into the possibility of running a virtual machine on your PC to host one of the operating systems.
