Email Backup
Hi all,
I've been doing E-mail backups with Acronis True Image 2014 with the tool that the software have for this purpose.
Last week my laptop's HD died, so on a new computer I tried to restore my email backup, but.... I can't !!.
First think I have seen is that the backup have all the folder structure I had on my outlook2010 previously, but when I try to open the outlook once made the restore with all the options (Microsoft outlook, register and Windows contacts), I get a message from outlook that says:
(translating from spanish...)
"can't open folders. Access denied to file. No rights enought to access the file C:\Program files(x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\C"
... and I just can accept and it closes Outlook.
Is there any way to restore the files, but not using Acronis ?
Regards.

Hello,
I also use TIH2014 and have created Outlook 2010 backups using the proper email backup menu selection in TIH2014.
The day came when I needed to restore my complete mail system. Of course , I had Office 2010 loaded and functional but with no emails, no self created folders, no rules, folder structure was what you will see immediately after an install of office 2010...
I engaged the restore of the email backup and TIH2014 restored my entire email system back just perfectly.
I was missing several days of emails but since I had outlook set to keep a copy on the server for 10 days, all missing emails were replaced as soon as I did the send/receive.
My experience with the email backup and restore with TIH2014 was good. What I didn't do was make any attempt to manually open any of the backup files. The outlook that I was restoring to was exactly the same on my OS drive as the original that I created the backup from with the exception that all the self created folders, email, replies, rules etc were not there. All you really need is the bare outlook install and then run the restore. I think it is important that the system login name (admin) and outlook installation is the same as the original that the backup was made from.
So, your system login name should be the same and you should be an admin. THI2014 should be able to replace your outlook system ( accounts, folders, emails etc. just the way it was when you created the backup.
Mine did...

Hi Everyone,
Not knocking Acronis or its ability to back up personal data, such as email, but the safest and most reliable way to back up Outlook Email is to make a copy of the .PST file. This above all else will not fail you, regardless of the version of Outlook. There are no dependencies on accts, or password and much greater flexibility.
A .PST can be open in another copy of Outlook, on another computer. Yours, or someone else's. The information inside, such as mail, contacts and calendar items can be copied, recovered, moved or reviewed without worry or wondering "if its going to work". The Import/Export feature works flawlessly and opening a .PST is even easier. In Outlook, File menu > Open > Personal File or Data.... If you are going to use Acronis, I suggest performing one or two recoveries just so you are sure, your process and steps work as expected. The same way you would by performing tests to ensure backups of your disks work when and if you need them.

HI,
Too late for this solution ?!. I've been always doing the backups with Acronis.
If I open the *.tib file acronis software, I can go trough all folder treee until arrive to the message, so the information seems to be there, but... Now If I just try just restore some of the email folders (not with the rest of the config), I get an error message that says...
Platform type: Windows
Arquitecture: 64
Kernel: 6.2.9200
...
...
Error code: 0x0058000F
Another window request to check for the error code on the http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/ , but no ifo about ?!
There's anyother way to extrat my emails from the *.tib ??!!
Regards

When you are extracting, try using the option to restore without original security ... see attached screenshots

Ditto to shadowsports's post. I use a couple of methods to back up my .PST file as it's probably the most important "must keep" item on my PC.
I use my twice-daily unattended Acronis specific-item backup job (to an external target USB HDD) to back it up. I've test-restored the PST file occasionally.
I also backup the PST (along with a few other of my must-keep items) with a batch job to a couple of Flash Drives.
I've simulated a full restore with both backup methods, by renaming my original PST and then copying a backup copy into the default PST file location. It's always worked for me with my version of Outlook.
