Email Backup & Admin Privilege

Thread needs solution

I'm using Win 7 (x64) Pro, TIH 2012 and Outlook 2007. I have 2 user accounts one with admin privilege and the other a standard user.

I've been taking email backups for each account for some time but have just realised that both are actually backing up the admin account !

For the standard account the credentials are set for that account and if you check the settings prior to the backup the currect account is shown.

If I change the Windows Account paramter to specify the standard user the backup fails :-

Event :- Failed to open (initialize) the computer.

Error Code :- More information about this error and solutions may be available online in the Acronis Knowledge Base.
To access the online resource manually, enter the event code at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x000101F4+0x00100005+0x00000009+0x0000FFF0+0x80070522

I see no dets for this on Knowlege base but assume it relates to admin rights as the backup for the admin user works OK.

I've noted other posts similar to this for older versions seem to imply admin privilege is not required.

I guess I need to know how I backup the email account of a "standard user" ?

I don't think there is a way to use email backup if you use a non-admin account. You can create a disk and partition backup that includes the C:\Users\ folder and therefore the email folders that are typically in the appdata hidden folders unless you moved them somewhere else.

Pat, thanks. I sort of expected that was the case - seems a significant "weakness" in the product.

At last I found what TIH 2012 wanted from me: Administrator's password. Wht? I may have included some file(s) or director(ies) that need a password. So, I created a new job under Administrator's rights. Backup is created, but more often than not TIH reports errors in the log file:

It would be a nice idea to tell the user via the log file to which files the references under 32-35 are regarding.

Hi

Did you ever manage to resolve this?

There is a KB artical http://kb.acronis.com/content/15198 which states if fixed in newer release.

I can report that it not in the latest 2013 version

I have not tried the work around yet, but to me that would compamise user security!

Any thoughts?

Rgs Steve

@sjgnet, no I didn't resolve but have bypassed as per earlier "Pat L" suggestion of including the outlook.pst files in file level backups.

Hi,

Have tested the workaround and it works but as suspected compromises Standard user security.

I'm using windows live mail. so have located the storage folders for that and included in a file & folder email. Actually easier that outlook.pst files!

Also Acronis email only does POP3 accounts this way should do IMAP accounts as well.

Finally I also use an archiving tool mailstore which I like, great for migrating between different email clients and searching for content.
