Error Editing Backup Settings

Thread needs solution

I am receiving the following error when editing backup settings:

"Failed to add the backup to the backup list."
0x006403ED 0x00040011 0x0000FFF0 0x80070002

To reproduce:
* Create a backup task (disk or file)
* Exit with "backup later" (do not run immediately)
* Select "Operations", "Edit backup settings" for the newly created task
* Modify something (priority or compression for example)
* Close dialog with "save" to save changes to backup
* A dialog identifying the above should appear

As far as I can tell, the changes are actually saved but this is a bit disconcerting....

Any ideas?

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Acronis Home 2011 Build 6574
Upgraded from Acronis 2010 without problems
Backup destination is a new Seagate 440 NAS

Robert,
Look at the fix suggested by Ed n this link and see if this solves your problem.
After changing any item in the backup setting, before you click ok, click on the backup schemes tab and then click save.
This should not be happening but maybe Ed may have found a temporary fix.

Let us know.

That's one I haven't seen. Couldn't reproduce it following robert_'s instructions. But, I'm on Windows Vista 32 bit.

FYI, that work around won't work here. It doesn't matter what I change, or what tab I press ok on, the Cleanup setting is reset every time. I can't find any combination of actions that will preserve it.

Bruce.

Thanks, GroverH. That didn't help. However, I experienced other flaky behavior so did a full un-/reinstall back to the 5519 build. Also deleted and recreated all of the backup tasks from scratch. Seems to have cleared up the issue at the moment.

Thanks again.

I just ran into exactly the same error under exactly the same situation:

* Win7 Pro x64
* TIH 2011 b6574
* existing file-based backup job (though it hasn't yet run successfully)
* Edit backup settings
* change file selections
* click Save
* after a couple seconds get an error window:
Failed to add the backup to the backup list.
[...]
Event code: 0x006403ED 0x00040011 0x0000FFF0 0x80070002
* though selection changes are, in fact, saved

The only difference in my case is that the backup destination is an internal drive.

In one sense this error doesn't matter, since b6574 has been withdrawn and presumably will be replaced. But it's yet another problem with this build that needs to be fixed.

same error as JWells on Win7x64 and TIH2011 #6574.
Sheduled Task runs every day, but I have problems on full destination disks, so I want to change the backup settings - and run in the same error above.

BTW: How can I avoid that the backupjob run into full destination disks? Can TI automatically merge&clean the last incremental Backups in this case...?
I dealt with some settings, but some ar unclear for me.

Greetings from Berlin!

Same problem on Win XP SP3, TIH2011 Build 6597. The error occurs anytime I try to:

  • Change settings of an existing backup, whether or not it has ever run, and then click "save"; OR
  • Clone a backup, then change the settings, then click "save"

TIH2011 was installed fresh a few days ago. I've never had an Acronis product installed on this computer before. The installation reported no errors. Backups seem to work (and restoring from those backups, as well). But, I can't make any changes to backup settings without getting this error.

Any fixes forthcoming??

I'm running build # 6597 and have this exact same issue. I found the only suitable way for me to avoid this error is to delete the backup job and recreate it from scratch. It's annoying but I'll live. My set up is nearly the same as yours, but I'm running Windows 7 32-bit.
I'm backing up to a D-Link DNS-323 NAS and I'm using a straight UNC path to the NAS.
I'm really surprised this slipped by the QA Team at Acronis. I didn't have this issue with 2010.

Hi Jochen,

Greetings to you!

Define a custom scheme that specifies the maximum size of your backup. I've been running this one for several weeks and it's been doing a good job of keeping my backup at or below 200 Gb:

Hi Ed,

thanks for the reply!
question: which part of the backups have to be 200GB max. - the whole or the differential parts?

If I make a full backup, my TIB-File is approx. 1TB. My destination disk is a 2TB eSATA HDD. If I use incremental backups, those parts were approx. 9...20GB every night. What values to you recommend in my scenario, if a new full backup should overrides all incrementals and should run every 7...14 days - as a function of the dest. disk does overflows? :-)

Thx!

Hi Jochen,

The 200 Gb specifies the total size of all the tib files created by this backup task. ATIH2011 consolidates the differential backups as necessary to stay under that size. However, since the largest this configuration lets you specify (999 Gb) is smaller than one of your full backups, it won't work for you. Try something like this:

Hi Ed,

thanks for the quick reply!
I'll try this, but I saw in the past, that TI often crate temporary files that were renamed after succsessful ending backup.
If I use your recommendation of 1800GB, I fear that the merge process don't work - but we will see... I'll try it and wrote here how it works.

I'm getting exactly the same error message which contains the errors: 0x006403ED_0x00040011_0x0000FFF0_0x80070002
Running 2011 Home on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. However it looks like the changed settings took anyway, as when I tried to edit the settings after the error, the changes were there. Also the list of backups showed this particular partition had not been backed up, but the backup is clearly there from two weeks ago (manually run, not scheduled).

Experience shows this "cannot add to the backup list" error is not a show stopper bug. It happens if you edit settings of a backup that has not been run yet. As you noticed, the changes are saved anyway. You can safely ignore it and hope it will be fixed in the next version.

I have seen ATI lose track of previous backups as well after some serious level of changes, and/or get confused if you leave some TIB files in the backup directory.

If you see this issue, I recommend you *copy* your existing TIB files to another directory, delete the backup that shows some issues and recreate a new task.
