ERROR: Last Volume of Backup

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I just downloaded TI2014 from your website to see if I could restore a software image previously created.

But when I select the TIB file I get the follwing error:

Note: With TI2013, the same error happens.

Any ideas about this issue?

Thank you

Could you please give more information on your situation.

Did you make a full disk/partition image or a files and folders backup?

Did you make subsequent incremental or differential images/backups, if so how many are in the chain?

Are these files stored on an external/internal drive or to a CD/DVD?

Are the files split into 4Gb (approx) slices or a complete single set of files?

If the files are stored on a disk what formatting is your disk using?

Are you able to Explore or Mount the tib file when in Windows?

Hello Collin,

Q:Did you make a full disk/partition image or a files and folders backup?
A:A full disk image.

Q:Did you make subsequent incremental or differential images/backups, if so how many are in the chain?
A:No I didn't make any incremental backups.

Q:Are these files stored on an external/internal drive or to a CD/DVD?
A:The TIB backup is stored on a USB External HDD.
TI2014 is running from a pendrive (created ISO file).

Q:Are the files split into 4Gb (approx) slices or a complete single set of files?
A:It's only a single 900MB file containing Debian 7.0 and a small set of programs.

Q:If the files are stored on a disk what formatting is your disk using?
A:Bootable Pendrive with Acronis is using FAT32 filesystem.
USB External HDD (which contains the TIB), is using NTFS filesystem.

Q:Are you able to Explore or Mount the tib file when in Windows?
A:Even in Windows, I can't access the TIB file.
Acronis reports the error documented in the attached file.
Do you think I have a corrupted image?
Also, after image creation, I changed the name of the image to Backup1.tib.
Could that cause this error? Because the pop-up (depicted in the attached file), says something about changing the file name.

Please tell me if you need any more info.

Thank you

Sounds like the backup got corrupt. My best guess is you're SOL. Perhaps one of the MVPs have a trick or 2 up their sleeve.

You could also see if Grover's wealth of knowledge has any useful info, located here.

You can try changing the name back to original. Unfortunately, TI does not look kindly to name changes as it still has info about the original in its database about the image creation.

If the current location is not the original source, try renaming the file and copy it back to its source.

Very little chance of recovery until it passes inspection for TI.

Hello.

@ Whooaahh -> I saw your provided link.
What a Knowledge Base! Definitely a keeper.
Thank you.

@ GroverH -> Yes, I suspected that changing the name to it's original string could help.
Unfortunately I'm not 100% sure about the old name, and since renaming didn't help, I could be inserting it wrong!

So... I could have a corrupted TIB file, or the old backup name is absolutely necessary.
To prevent these issues, and since it was a somewhat important backup, I also created a Clo**zilla image (nice for capturing with EXT4) just in case!

My system is now up and running again.

Thank you all for trying to help.

Thanks for the update. Nice to see that someone actually practices what we preach.
"Alternate backups via alternate means. Don't have all your data in just one "backup". Test your recovery procedure.

Many thanks to you.
